In 2004, after more than two decades in some of Metro Detroit’s most respected kitchens — including the Van Dyke Place Restaurant, the Whitney, and Mac & Ray’s — Chef Jeff Baldwin opened J.Baldwin’s Restaurant and Catering. The vision was simple but ambitious: bring the flavors and technique of fine dining into a setting that felt welcoming, accessible, and suited to modern life.
At the heart of the menu is Chef Baldwin’s signature calamari, alongside a menu rooted in classic culinary training and thoughtful ingredients. Gourmet food should not be reserved for rare occasions — it should be something people can enjoy whenever the moment calls for it.
In 2016, the Baldwin Restaurant Group was formed, introducing Testa Barra Kitchen & Cocktails, a modern Italian restaurant known for its vibrant atmosphere, fresh pastas, and hand-tossed pizzas.
What began with Chef Jeff Baldwin’s vision has grown into a true family business. Over the years, the Baldwin family has helped shape every part of the restaurant, carrying forward the values that have defined J.Baldwin’s since day one: hospitality, consistency, and a genuine appreciation for bringing people together.
